"Nezavisimaya Gazeta" Incident: Grymov Was Arrested With Weapon Consignment
There was a real tumult at the Cairo airport when the customers saw the Russian movie director's luggage that was far from being a usual resort one. The Egyptians were stiffen in astonishment when they saw that Grymov coolly filled in the declaration line "items that forbidden to be brought in" - machine-gun Kalashnikov - 2 pieces, army Finnish knife - 4 pieces, machine-gun shells - 2000 pieces, infantry mines - 40 pieces'. In five minutes Grymov was arrested, and weapon consignment was sent to examination. It turned out that weapons were just properties for shooting a new movie called "Strangers" in fact. The topic of the movie was about international relations. In that project American, Russian and Arab actors were taking part. But Cairo authorities were not in a hurry to relax they vigilance related to the weapon properties. To clear the situation and to free Grymov it took several days. The director was dismissed from the imprisonment only after the Russian counsel was involved. He answered for peaceful expectancies of fully armed Grymov. At last the luggage was returned to Yuri Grymov and he could start the shooting. The shooting team expresses its thanks to the Russian counsel in Egypt for his assistance and to the Cairo authorities for their indulgent attitude to Russian cinema vicissitude.
